Africa Specialty Risks expands Medical Malpractice offering with the appointment of Phillip Murphy

London, 25 September 2025 – Africa Specialty Risks (“ASR”), the developing markets focused (re)insurance group, announces the appointment of Phillip Murphy as Medical Malpractice Senior Underwriter. Based in London, he will report to Martin Boreham, Active Underwriter & Director of Underwriting.

Phillip will be responsible for broadening the medical malpractice underwriting line, which is currently offered within a suite of liability solutions. This will include increase geographic coverage and expanding broker connections throughout Africa and developing markets.

He joins ASR with over 20 years of Medical Malpractice insurance experience, having worked with some of the largest institutional healthcare providers including physician groups and long-term care providers.

Prior to joining ASR, Phillip was at Elysium Insure, a trading name of Costero Insurance Brokers Ltd, operating under a binder with ASR, where he was Senior Underwriter, Medical Malpractice Liability, having established and led the International Medical Malpractice Product Line over the last three years.  Before this he led the International Medical Malpractice Product Line at China Re between 2017 and 2019. He has also held roles at Dashwood Brewer & Phipps, BMS, Miller, Aon and Willis.

ASR will oversee the runoff of the Medical Malpractice Binding Authorities currently underwritten by Elysium and supported by ASR. ASR and Elysium will work closely together to run off the remaining premiums and claims placed under the Elysium Binder.
